The Philippines is a tropical country where the weather always changes and, most of the time, is always hot. This is especially true when summer hits the country and the whole country is wrapped with scorching heat. When this happens, almost everyone wants to get out of the heat and into the benefits of coldness. While most Filipinos would go out of the country to avoid the heat, some few ones would prefer to go to Baguio City in Benguet---which is known as the summer capital of the Philippines.


Baguio City is the most highly urbanized city in the Cordillera Administrative Region where most of the businesses and commerce of Northern Luzon are happening. Almost all of the tourist attarctions in Benguet are found in Baguio and mixing touring plus the cold weather makes your summer vacation worthwhile.

One tourist attraction that you can go to is Burnham Park, which is teh urban park located at the center of Bagui City. Here, tourists can have a scenic view of Mount Kabuyao which is the tallest mountain in Baguio. Also in this park is a road going to Camp John Hay, a former recreational base of the United States Armed Forces of the Philippines. Now, it contains various inns and hotels as well as houses that are owned by different Filipinos that serve as a vacation house whenever families have their vacation in Baguio.

Back to Burnham Park, it has a man-made lake at the center where tourists and residents can enjoy boating by renting boats within the park. There is also an ice skating rink and a football field where tourists can ice skate and play football for recreational pruporses or for games. For those who want to hold events here, you can get the Melvin Jones Grand Stand where it can accommodate a big amount of people. If you want to just enjoy the view of Baguio and the park, you rent bikes of all forms or walk around the park with your loved ones.

Other tourist attractions that you can go to Session Road which is lined up with restaurants and bars that jave bands and singers serenading the customers at night. Have fun withn your friends or chill out with your relatives by going into one of these restaurants and bars and sing the night away with the singers and bands.

If you want a change of scenery and explore the other parts of Benguet, then you can go to Banaue, which is municipality of Ifugao and the home of the Banaue Rice Terraces.

The Banaue Rice Terraces consists of 200 year-old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao by the indigenous people and is referred to as the Eight Wonder of the World. This tourist attraction is famous because of the way the terraces were made and it was said to have been done by hand and less on equipment. It is measured at approximately 1500 meters (5000 ft) above sea level and cover 10,360 square kilometers (about 4000 square miles) of mountainside. The locals plant rice and vegetables in these terraces and serve as their source of food and incomes. Tourists can get a package tour where they can explore the Banaue Rice Terraces and visit the tribes at the foot of the mountains.

When it comes to tourism in Northern Luzon, Baguio City and Banaue are two of the top places to go to. You will surely get your money’s worth, especially if your goal is to get away from the scorching heat. So visit Baguio and Banaue now and enjoy the cold weather and its different and unique tourist attractions.
